Lecturer
Department of Aquatic Environment and Resource Management
Koushik Chakroborty is a Lecturer in the Department of Aquatic Environment and Resource Management, Faculty of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Marine Science, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He holds an MS in Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Environment and a BS in Fisheries from Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), securing 1st position in both programs. He received several academic distinctions, including nomination for the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal, the Nagao Natural Environment Foundation Scholarship, and the BSMRAU Merit Scholarship.
His research interests lie at the intersection of Earth observation, GIS and remote sensing, environmental and ecological monitoring, land-use and land-cover change, and aquaculture. His current work includes satellite-based assessment of land-use and shoreline change, water and ecosystem dynamics, and the integration of geospatial and socio-environmental data to understand environmental change in coastal and inland aquatic systems and the communities that depend on them. He is particularly interested in applying remote sensing, spatial analysis, and quantitative methods to support the sustainable management of aquatic and coastal resources.
His research also covers aquaculture systems, water quality, plankton dynamics, fish population dynamics, and sustainable aquaculture practices. He has contributed to peer-reviewed research on aquatic environmental assessment, aquaculture nutrition and feed additives, aquamimicry, aquatic biodiversity, and fisheries-related socio-economic issues. His work combines field observations, statistical analysis, and geospatial techniques to address practical environmental and fisheries challenges.
Alongside research, Koushik is actively engaged in university teaching and student supervision. His long-term academic interests focus on integrating remote sensing, environmental data analysis, and aquatic sciences to understand the impacts of climate and environmental change on water resources, fisheries, and aquaculture systems.
